If you don't want to, then don't and they'll stop sending the newspaper. If it's a book it's most likely "on approval", which gives you a certain time to return the book if you don't like it and owe nothing, or keep the book and send them a payment. If you did not return the book within the time frame, then you bought it. If you don't pay, they can do anything that any other creditor with a bad debt can do, including report your delinquency to a credit bureau.
