what was the first semi-automatic pistol made
Q. What exactly was the first semi-automatic pistol made, not the revolver. Meaning, what was the first pistol that operated by clip or magazine (i dunno which one they used first) rather than cylinder with multiple chambers. would you also give me the year it was made please. that would really help me out.

A. Possibly the Borchardt Luger. Either that or a Browning design. But I bet its the Borchardt-Luger. Yes, I checked and was right. The C93 Borchardt. Designed in 1893.

what benefits are there to choosing a revolver over a semi-automatic pistol with a larger capacity clip?
Q. now own a Beretta .40 and a Bersa .380 - revolvers are beautiful but is there a real advantage to having one for personal protection use
Asked by Emilio E - Thu Mar 6 00:08:00 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. what I think the main advantage is: a revolver will always work and is always going to fire, especially if it's just sitting around for years. you pull the trigger and its going to fire. With a semi auto its got a lot more parts and pieces thus a higher chance something is going to go wrong. especially if you're using it for protection and its just sitting there, you've got the magazine and all the internal mechanizms in the gun and thats all stuff a revolver doesn't have so I think its the beauty in its simplicity. Plus, it only takes one shot, doesn't matter how many others you have it after 6 the problem isn't resolved you're in trouble so a larger clip really isn't as important

A. 4 to 5" seems to be about the standard when it comes to full frame semi autos. I prefer longer barrels as more of the powder burns and accelerates the bullet and will give more accuracy, but I have had exellent shot placement with short barrels at long distance shots as well.

will a 9mm blank cartridge cycle a semi-automatic pistol or do i have to manually eject the case?
Q. i have no experience with blank rounds but i'd like to purchase some just for the sake of doing so. my question is this: will a blank cartridge cause the slide of a semi-automatic pistol to recoil and set up for the next shot or does the cartridge only fire to were i will have to eject and reload manually?

A. Blank firing semi autos either have a block on the end of the barrel or a built in baffle in the barrel. The slide works when the expanding gas can push against something.

A. I don't think so. Even weapons that were originally open bolt full autos such as the Thompson, BAR, Mac 10, 11, Uzi, ect... Fire from a closed bolt configuration in their semi auto versions.

A. no it doesnt. Thats the whole thing about semi-automatic. its that you can shoot, release the trigger, then shoot again. thats the semi part. A gun that is fully automatic is one that you just hold down the trigger

A. It's a water pistol. He uses it to water plants around the set. Chuck Norris doesn't need a real pistol. Every organ in his body has to be registered as a lethal weapon in every state in the country.

A. That's a good question, and to be honest I would say that there is no correct answer. It's kind of like asking, "What's better- a bright red V12 Ferrari or a bright red V12 Lamborghini?" There isn't a wrong answer, they are both gorgeous cars and theyre both going to go reallly fast and attract a lot of attention. The Glock 27 and XD subcompact compare similarly. They are both nearly identical in size and weight, although the XD holds 10 rounds standard instead of the Glock's 9 round magazine. Although, you can upgrade the magazine if you'd like. The Glock however, does have an advantage of reputation. Glock firearms have been tested and shot for many many years, and have established themselves as one of the most reliable gun makers… [cont.]

Semi automatic pistol buying guide?
Q. Hy! I am looking to buy a semi automatic pistol but I really don't know much about pistols so what do I have to look out for? I have a gun in my sights. Its indegineously made. (I think it was made in Darra Adam Khel). Foreign made models are a little pricy. So how should I judge that its in good condition? Or if anyone can point to a guide or something. Also I'd need a disassembling and assembling guide too. Thanx! Its used. And is visibly in a good condition ... I think. Also I'd like to know these things just for my knowledge.

A. If you don't know a lot about pistols, you may not want to start with a exotic foreign made one. I would go with something a little more common and local. I might suggest that you look around a little bit. A good place to start would be on gunbroker.

best semi automatic pistol 4 self defense??
Q. what semi automatic pistol is the best at stopping/killing (if you have 2) a intruder or attacker?? something that is strong enough 2 actually do some damage but that doesnt have 2 much kick? less kick so that you can accurately aim for a second shot faster if needed. i live in california. i always hear people talking about desert eagles and magnums but im not trying 2 kill a bear or elephant. something that is much stronger than a .22 but much weaker than a .45.

A. If you want smaller than a 45 go for the 40 S&W. Handgun: 1911 clone in 40 S&W. Too bad you live in CA, the Para-Ordnance P-16 is awesome.

A. from the Michigan DNR website In order for a person who is not a resident of Michigan to possess or use a handgun in this State, they must first have been issued a permit allowing them to carry a concealed weapon which is honored by their home state. This is not a hunting regulation, but a general Michiganpenal statute. A violation could result in a felony prosecution and forfeiture of the handgun. Which semi- automatic pistol is the easiest to slide?
Q. I am a very petite woman who needs to purchase a gun for self defense (ie home invasion, robbery, etc). My problem is that I have tried many semi-automatic hand guns at local gun shops and am not strong enough to even move the slide back at all (I have a hard time with all of them and usually have to use all of my strength to even move the slides halfway). I was told by many gunshop owners that the only guns I can use are the revolvers like the Smith and Wesson LadySmith, but even this one feels very heavy in my hands. Am I forever stuck with a revolver or are there any semi-automatics out there that are easy to slide? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A. Nope. What would be the point? It would compete against their own five shot revolvers and be at a disadvantage to the competition. Even the Ruger LCP holds more rounds than that.

Asked by sakrlaf - Thu Mar 2 18:53:36 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I've never messed with that brand, but rule number 1 for any weapon is to be SURE it is unloaded. Some semiautos do not have an extractor and just pulling the slide back will not remove a chambered round...always look down at the chamber with the slide locked back. Do NOT look down the muzzel end. Pull the slide back and lift the rear portion. This should get the slide off and allow for cleaning. Advice: Save up and get a better quality gun. Lorcin is not noted for quality. A Ruger would not be that much more money; there are several lower end priced guns which beat Lorcin's quality.
