Politics is a process by which groups of people make decisions. The term is generally applied to behaviour within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power" and refers to the regulation of a political unit, and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.

"Politics" ultimately comes from the Greek word "polis" meaning state or city. "Politikos" describes anything concerning the state or city affairs. In Latin, this was "politicus" and in French "politique". Thus it became "politics" in Middle English ( see the Concise Oxford Dictionary).

There is no academic consensus on the exact definition of "Politics", and what counts as political and what does not. Max Weber defined politics as the struggle for power.

As an academic discipline

Political science, the study of politics, examines the acquisition and application of power. Related areas of study include political philosophy, which seeks a rationale for politics and an ethic of public behaviour, political economy, which attempts to develop understandings of the relationships between politics and the economy and the governance of the two, and public administration, which examines the practices of governance.

What are some examples of political and economic systems?
Q. Hello. I am a softmore in high school. My global history teacher was absent and she left a very unclear homework assignment. The assignment is to define and give examples of ALL political and economic systems. I am so confused. I don't even know where to start. I just want to know which words I have to define. I would really appreciate it if somebody gave me a list of such political and economic systems that I should define.

A. There is Liberal Deomcracies like the US, UK and most of europe, where people can vote and the government allowed private properties and business and does not interfere too much in the economy. Communism like China and Russia in the past, this is where the government owns everything and people have limited political rights. There is also fascism like Germany and Italy in the Second World War, this is a chaotic system where the government rigidly controls the social structure of the country. If I were you I'd look up Liberalism, Socialism, Communism and Fascism on wikipedia or answers.com. Or even better get a book from the library.

A. "Won't fall asleep". That is a tall order Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth"? John Dean's "Blind ambition"? Rciahrd Nixon's "Six Crises"?

How can we wipe political correctness of the face of the Earth forever?
Q. I am sick of hearing holiday tree. It is called a christmas tree! I am sick of hearing spring eggs (they are EASTER eggs) I am also sick of changing everything so no one is offended "baa baa rainbow sheep wtf?! SO is there anyway to rid the planet of the horror known as political correctness and all of it's supporters along with it?

A. Just do what you want. Call it a X-mas tree. I do. I've never heard of "Spring eggs" - maybe that's a regional thing. Rather than ranting/venting why not just show your position by your actions?
