Asked by nickman27 - Fri Jul 17 18:30:25 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well.. Handgun covers both pistols and revolvers, both types are handguns. All pistols are handguns, all revolvers are handguns. No pistols are revolvers, no revolvers are pistols. Some pistols are single shot. Some pistols are repeating. Some repeating pistols are semi autos. Some pistols are magazine fed bolt actions. Some pistols are magazine fed lever actions. Some pistols are magazine fed pump actions. In general there are two classes of handguns. Revolvers and Pistols. The distinction is how the cartridge lines up with the bore of the barrel. In revolvers, the cylinder turns to bring the cartridges into line with the barrel. In pistols, the cartridges are loaded directly into a chamber in the barrel. This is how those that… [cont.]

What pistol has very little or no kickback?
Q. I want to start going to the shooting range, but i am a beginner. I want to know what pistol has little or no kickback so I can start with that, and work my way up. So what do you consider a very little or no kickback gun that is accurate?
Asked by John M - Mon May 25 18:41:58 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You're gonna get the same answer over and over. .22lr. It has VERY little recoil. Gregg recommended a Ruger Mk I, II, or III. My first gun was actually a Ruger Mk III. It is a TOTALLY appropriate gun to start with, and I still love to shoot it. The biggest disadvantage I find is learning to take it apart.. especially the first few times before it's all broken in. Otherwise, it's been an amazing, accurate gun. That rail is removable. .22lr is cheap and plentiful. You'll be able to practice alot. I'd recommend you look for a range that has rentals. You'll never know how well a gun works for you until you shoot it yourself. I know I'd personally get friggin bored if all I shot was .22lr.

What pistol should i get for starting out?
Q. I'm wanting to get a pistol for recreational shooting and just to have. I've never owned a gun or shot one. What gun should I get?
Asked by Mort Rainey - Tue Dec 1 18:48:54 2009 - - 17 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would start out with a .22lr pistol. Most .22 pistols are less expensive and ammo is also pretty cheap. It is a lower recoil round that will allow you to learn safety, control, aim, and other basics. as for the gun I would go to a gun shop and pick up and hold as many as you can. the one that fits best in your hand is the one that you will shoot best with. How does one decock a Browning Buckmark Pistol and how should one load the first round?
Q. A recent answerer advised against using the Slide Release/Stop Latch for loading a round into the chamber ("Sling Shot" method.) Can anyone give a good method for doing this? The answerer also advised against decocking the pistol by "dry firing" it. How should it be decocked? The Browning manual is unclear or silent on these questions and so I would appreciate information to help me get started right with my new toy.
Asked by Geuler - Sat Jan 12 00:15:04 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. When you unload the pistol, just take out the magazine first and rack the slide to clear out the cartridge in the chamber, don't use the slide stop or dry fire it, just put the safety on. When you get ready to shoot it though, put the magazine in the pistol, take the safety off and rack the slide again to chamber a round. The only way you can decock the pistol is when you field strip it by holding the trigger down with one finger and at the same time take your fingers on your other hand and let the hammer down slowly.

Can an airsoft pistol that uses green gas also work with propane?
Q. I'm getting a semi-auto airsoft pistol (have not decided which one). Most of the guns I like need green gas. Green gas is so expensive, so can I use propane instead? Will it damage my gun or lower the FPS?
Asked by Jonathan - Wed Nov 25 19:00:58 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yup, green gas is 99% propane so most people use it instead of green. Just get yourself a propane adapter so you can fill your mags from a propane bottle and some silicone oil to add to the mags from time to time.

How do I upgrade my spring airsoft pistol?
Q. I have two spring pistols both them are around 220 fps with .2 and can fly up to 130 feet accurate. My friend got the same pistol to go up to 270 fps with .2 and can fly really far. So how can I upgrade it?
Asked by i need answers!!!!! - Wed Aug 5 21:23:20 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well depending on the gun you can take it to different airsoft shops to see if they offer a spring upgrade, and barrel length increase. The spring is the source of a spring powered airsoft gun, upgrading this will allow higher FPS. After that if you lengthen the barrel with a 6MM in diameter pipe and a adapter to connect it to the built-in barrel (note: do not attach to the orange tip that is not part of the barrel and do not remove it permanently because that could get you fined and have the gun confiscated depending where in the USA you live. Do NOT shrink the inside of the pipe any smaller than 6MM, if it gets smaller the bb most likely will jam and the gun may be ruined forever!) by about 2-5 inches (depending on how far and strait you… [cont.]

What are the laws in Colorado regarding carrying a holstered pistol unconcealed?
Q. What are the laws in Colorado regarding carrying a holstered pistol unconcealed? This is hard info to find... but i was wondering if anyone knew if you could carry a holster openly without a CCW permit.
Asked by ares424 - Mon May 19 03:16:02 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, you can, with a number of confusing exceptions with harsh penalties if you run afoul of them. For instance, you board a bus while openly carrying your handgun. If the gun is unloaded you are fine. If the gun is LOADED, you just committed a felony. There are several other restrictions. You had better know them all before carrying openly. Even if you are legal, you should expect to be stopped by about every police officer who see you and who will want to know why you are carrying a gun.

I am an experience shooter and gun owner, but have not exposed my children to the sport very much. They have been exposed to the world of firearms though, and have been present when guns were out of the safe for cleaning, etc. My son (older than his siblings by many years) has been spoken to about not touching a gun unless I am with him, keep your finger off the trigger, etc. He and I have even been in a few gun shops, and found a pistol that fit his hands pretty well. Asked by Jamie A - Sat Sep 15 14:13:54 2007 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, I'd actually start with a .22 rifle and single fire or bolt action would be the preference. Maybe a Cricket? Rifles are much easier to shoot for young hands because you can sit them down at a bench with bags and load and then let them fire at the target. Pistols require two hands and a whole lot more control. Your kid can be spinning those little steel spinner targets in no time with a rifle, which is fun and positive encouragement. Pistols will be much slower to get him on target. The great thing about firearms, is you can sell in a year or two and not loose much of your investment, then move up to something different.

What type of pistol is best for self/home defense?
Q. I am looking for one that is inexpensive and would kill somebody or make them run away in the event of a robbery, etc...I do not have that much money so I want under 500 bucks. I was thinking about a Smith and Wesson Polymer 9mm pistol. What caliber and type of pistol should I get? Thank you, best answer gets 10pts.

A. Best is so subjective. If all your wanting is a handgun in case some one were possibly to break in look into a revolver, preferably a double action .357 magnum with a 4" barrel even stainless if you can find one in your price range. I'd look to either S&W 686 (L Frame) or Ruger GP-100. You may need to look for used to meet your price range.

A. Spring guns aren't as good as GBB (gas blow back) if you ask me. GBB is much more realistic (it has a blow-back slide) and most can shoot farther than springs. However GBB tend to be more expensive. Unless I know where you live (approx) I can't really give you an estimate on how much it will cost. But it is likely it will cost more than $100. I can give you Canadian prices (that's all i know since i live in Canada): Most spring pistols will cost $20-100 GBB pistols cost $150-500

I recently came across it and a bunch of ammo that was for the pistol and it's of no use to me now. Can I sell it on Craigslist or in the paper or is that illegal? Thanks!

A. Have you checked the terms of use for Craigslist and your local newspaper's classified ad policies? It's certainly not illegal, just a question of what those businesses are willing to do.
