The concept of personhood (who is a person within a society) is the fundamental component of any selective concept of people. A distinction is maintained in philosophy and law between the notions "human being", or "man", and "person". The former refers to the species, while the latter refers to a rational agent (see, for example, John Locke's Essay concerning Human Understanding II 27 and Immanuel Kant's Introduction to the Metaphysic of Morals). Central issues of interest to people are the understanding of the human condition and the meaning of life, and survival. Religion, philosophy, and science show or represent modes and aspects of inquiry which attempt to investigate and understand the nature, behavior, and purpose of people. Sociology, economics, and politics represent modes by which people investigate how to maximize a collective survival strategy.

Islam recognizes the People of the Book as members of monotheistic faiths founded upon revelation related to its own faith. By contrast, in Judaism, the Jews are often said to be the chosen people, a concept modified by the Christian doctrine of the Elect.

What do people often forget to consider when choosing a breed?
Q. What should people consider why starting to choose a breed? What is often overlooked when people fall in love with a breed? Does this generally happen because people don't consider it at all, or because they think they can make the dog adapt to it because they really want the breed even though it isn't a good fit? What were some of the worst breed choices you have seen people make?

A. The most overlooked would be the dog's energy level, grooming needs and basic breed characteristics. It's appalling to me that people think they can keep a breed like a german shepherd or border collie in an apartment. Or think a dog like a lab is good with a half hour walk a day. My pet peeve is people who buy a gorgeous, long-haired breed (afghans come to mind!), then keep their hair cut short because they're too bloody lazy to groom the dog. Then there's those who are dismayed because their terriers dig and bark, their beagles bay, etc. Too many people in this world of instant gratification are lacking the common sense to research a breed before getting it - then when they find they can't groom, train or exercise it, the dog ends… [cont.]

How many people die in an average hospital in one day?
Q. I am going to be volunteering on Saturday nights in the ER at a fairly large hospital. For any ER doctors/nurses or hospital administrators, on *average*, how many people would you say die in a normal ER at one hospital in a single day? How about in the entire hospital (including failed operations and just really sick people)? I guess I just want to know what to expect - are there really several people dying every day (like on TV), or is it more like a handful of people every week?

A. I worked at a large hospital in Texas and we rarely had people dying daily. Most of the ones that died were older people with terminal diseases. There were many weekends that there were no deaths in the ER.

How are some people just so naturally outgoing?
Q. I try SO hard, not to be so shy. I just don't understand how people can just start talking about things to anyone. I can't do it. I try to make myself not worry about others, and say whatever comes to my mind when I'm around them, I want to talk to people! But when I'm with people besides my friends absoluelty nothing comes to my mind to say. I feel like I've tried everything, I've even tried not trying and that just makes things worse. How do you just talk to random people? Like say at the register. Please help, I'm willing to take any advice!

A. Are you happy with your life? I used to be like you, I tried so hard to talk and started conversation but its either not happening or turned even worse. But then a friend told me that I need to start taking life more easily, I tried different things, become more happy, more relaxed, and I just become entirely a new person. I greeted most people that I met (just like good morning how are you), and of course, with a smile and normally conversation will flow from there. I think it has to come within you, dont force it if you dont feel like. And the most important thing is, dont fake it, dont try to act like you care if you actually dont. people can see it. So just be natural. it will take time, but when u get there, its always amazing to… [cont.]

  • A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals, and you know it.
  • Show me a man or a woman alone and I'll show you a saint. Give me two and they'll fall in love. Give me three and they'll invent the charming thing we call 'society'. Give me four and they'll build a pyramid. Give me five and they'll make one an outcast. Give me six and they'll reinvent prejudice. Give me seven and in seven years they'll reinvent warfare. Man may have been made in the image of God, but human society was made in the image of His opposite number, and is always trying to get back home.
