A. The official answer is NO. My ex husband who is a police officer was scaring our daughter saying that he gets copies of her text messages, (keep in mind the bill is in MY name not his) anyway, she was thinking cause he is a cop he can get them, i put her mind at ease when i drove her to my lawyers office and eh explained, regardless of whose name the bill is in, even if it was under his plan and not mine, he could absolutely not get any copies of any text messages. even phone companies cannot do this. Text messages are only given out when someone has a court order. So unless your friend is involved in drugs or something and the cops got a warrant/court order to the phone provider they can NOT give any text messages. the only thing a parent… [cont.]

What is the biggest collection of intertextual (related fiction al texts)?
Q. I was wondering what is the largest collection of intertextual or related fictional texts e.g. same universe same characters recurring. I'm not counting fan fiction here just TV shows and official books films etc that have been produced and sold. I've thought of three contenders for the largest number of interrelated texts, Star Trek, Doctor Who and the Marvel comics universe (counting all those comics that share characters between them as one big related universe. ) Are any of these the biggest set of fictional texts or is there some other fictional entity that might beat even these fictional giants?Anyone got any stats. Someone must know this.

A. What a good question! And what a surprise that you haven't got many good answers. For there are all sorts of "fictional" texts out there: "knock-knock" jokes, graffiti featuring Kilroy, scripts for Days of Our Lives, Dagwood and Blondie comic strips (and all the take-offs), Mickey Mouse cartoons/stories/skits at Disney World, Cinderellas (in virtually every language and virtually every medium), retellings of the story of Odysseus/Ulysses . . . . The last one (Ulysses) is an example of what I call "classics and their cousins." Of course, there are first cousins, second cousins, third cousins once removed . . . . the list goes on. By that I mean translations, retellings, adaptations, parallel stories, parodies, and the like. Of course, [cont.]

Official Guidelines And Laws For Sobriety Checkpoints?
Q. If there are texts somewhere on the internet that do not simply describe the process, but discuss laws associated with the process, can you give me a link? I would especially appreciate it if you could find a text on turning around before the sobriety checkpoint. I'd preferably like some official government text or a reference to it. Thanks. Added details: I'm in the state of Pennsylvania. No one in the car was intoxicated, but it was quite bothersome because of the traffic build-up. We made a legal U-turn to avoid the checkpoint but a cop stopped us after turning around.

why can't I read the text on some japanese official homepages etc.?
Q. I can't read some of the text on for example some japanese official homepages.. like the bands : SuG's, SCREW's, It only says these kind of signs instead of the actual text. I have that thing installed that makes you able to see kanji, hiragana and katakana but it still won't work.. Any ideas?

A. Up on the menu bar, click view, then character encoding, then Japanese. It might be on unicode and being read incorrectly. If not, then they didn't encode it correctly. I checked SuG's page, their encription is incorrect. It appears to be junk. As for SCREW, I have never heard of them.

Q. Should the bible be the official holy text of the United States?
Asked by Space Ghost - Tue Dec 5 15:28:31 2006 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. No. That would mean that it forces people other than christians to have a holy book that they don't accept, and would violate "Freedom of Religion" clause of the First Amendment. And remember - freedom of religion includes freedom FROM religion.

what is the official language in new zealand?
Q. Wikipedia says there are 3 official languages (English, M ori, NZ Sign Language), britannica says there are 2 (English; Maori). I am wondering what exactly says the law about official languages in NZ, and which is that law (I didn't find any legal text about this on internet) My misunderstanding was generated by what I found on Wikipedia: "English is a de facto official language; the other two have de jure official status.". This means English is not a 'de jure' official language, and it's just a 'de facto' official language? Or is both a 'de facto' and 'de jure' official language? In the law text related to this subject (whatever that law is and whenever this law has been (re)modified) says explicitly English is an official language? So,… [cont.]

A. Wikipedia is correct. Until 1987, English was the sole official language; in that year Maori was added and then on 10th April 2006, the New Zealand Sign Language Act was given the Royal Assent by the Governor-General and became official legislation. I imagine any discrepancies in your research information are due to the fact that NZSL has only recently been added and some reference sites have yet to be updated. Additional comments: To the best of my knowledge, and I am willing to be corrected, English has never been 'ratified' as an official language of New Zealand through specific legislation (I believe it is the same for both the Federal government of the USA and the United Kingdom - neither of whom has enacted legislation to make… [cont.]

What are the rules regarding school officials reading students text messages on their cell phones.?
Q. My son got his cell phone taken away in school for texting in class. The principle made us come in to retrieve his phone. He admitted to us that he had read the text messages and that they were in appropriate. I agree with the school rules with not using your cell phones in class, however does that give the principle the right to read his text messages. I thought that is illegal.
Asked by Nancy K - Thu Nov 1 20:34:20 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't worry about illegal. It is not. Be concerned instead of your son willfully breaking school rules and being more concerned about testing than doing his schoolwork. Support the school not your child.

A. Don't be sad. Michael will always be more than just a rotten body. He is now in Heaven. On June 25, 2009 many of us dug out our copies of Off the Wall and Thriller and invited Michael to remind us of the greatness that was once our musical world. Michaels' last days and his surprisingly close call with artistic redemption will always leave our minds in wander to see what our King would have done next. Michael had invested so much hard work into his comeback tours in London. Many believe it was his best work yet. The world may have written him off, but Michael never stopped believing that he was the King of Pop.
