What bonus material am i missing by purchasing season 6 Lost rather than the complete series edition?
Q. I already own Seasons 1-5 on blu-ray and am looking to purchase season 6. I love the bonus content from lost and I am wondering what bonus material comes with the complete series edition rather than just individual seasons. I think I am seeing that it is one bonus disc and the rest is just collectible stuff. I'm not too interested in the collectibles, but am more interested in knowing how much bonus content comes exclusively with series collection vs the individual seasons.

What is the criteria for payment of bonus in a firm started 1 year back, division of 12 year old company?
Q. We have established a company 12 years back and paying annual bonus including the profit bonus, as applicable. We have started another division under the same name but dealing another kind of business a year back. For payment of minimum (8.33%) bonus what is the criteria? Whether there is any provision of holiday period or the bonus has to be paid from the 1st year onwards? New division is presently running under loss. Whether the statutory bonus payment is applicable to this firm? If so what are the procedures to be adapted and how it is to be paid?

A. Bonus should be related to successful completion of the 1 year objectives. If the objectives were met, a bonus may be justified.

Do bonus checks at work have to be taxed in California?
Q. We give out bonus checks around Christmas every year, but someone just told me that we are supposed to report it to our payroll service and the amount is supposed to be taxed. Does anyone know if this is true?
Asked by PaganBeauty - Thu Dec 13 14:33:18 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yes, yes, yes. It's money, it's compensation, it gets taxed like everything else. Fica/MC and Federal/State taxes. The Federal/State taxes may be at a flat percentage (say 25% for federal).

What is the signing bonus for an officer in the air force?
Q. The army gives you this huge signing bonus when you join, but what about the air force? I can see different bonuses for enlisted people, but what about if you want to be an officer? They help pay for your education, is that it?
Asked by Em Diggity - Sun Nov 25 14:35:38 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Those are enlistment bonuses youre thinking of. Officer cadets in ROTC get a stipend when they're in the program, but not a whole lot else. If you're thinking of the service only in terms of the economic gain, perhaps you're better off retinking why you want to be in the service in the first place.

How should I handle having to repay a bonus for quitting before the stated term?
Q. I received a bonus in 2004 that stated I must stay with my employer until June 2006. I left in April 2006 and was required to repay the bonus. My W-2 from this employer shows only that I repaid the after-tax amount which does not include taxes; I think I should be able to claim the entire amount since I paid the taxes for 2004. Since this is from a prior year it's complicated. How should I handle this? Can this be treated as a penalty? Or does it simply reduce my income for the year?
Asked by Tony H - Fri Feb 2 11:42:40 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You will need to file an amendment to your taxes for 2004. H&R Block, etc., will be able to help you with it. But surifing around at www.irs.gov can be a great way to either figure out how to handle the matter by yourself, or finally come to the realization that the government has been taken over by aliens.

How much should a Christmas bonus usually be percentage wise?
Q. Employers usually give some kind of bonus around the holidays if the company is doing well, approx what percentage is considered "standard?"
Asked by Katie - Tue Oct 2 10:05:07 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There isn't a standard. The last two employers I had, didn't do Christmas Bonus. The one before that, did $100 for every year of employment. Before that, it was a week's pay.

If you get an enlistment bonus in the military, and then a year later get an other than honorable discharge?
Q. When this happenes, you are told you will be responsible for paying the bonus back. Future tax returns will be withheld until paid in full. Is this something that would be reported on your credit report? If so how would it report? Thanks for your help.

A. I've never seen anything like that report on a credit report, but then its a pretty unique circumstance, so perhaps it does and I've just never seen one in my years as a credit counselor. Regardless, when you owe the government money, they'll get it from you one way or another, so just prepare to pay it off, unless you plan to live overseas for the rest of your life.

When repaying a signing bonus, do you pay the net amount or the gross amount and receive a refund of taxes?
Q. I am planning to terminate my employment prior to vesting in a signing bonus and want to know exactly how much I will have to repay. Is it the gross amount of the bonus, or can I repay only the portion that I received and the employer can adjust their federal, state, and FICA withholdings.
Asked by justinm00 - Wed Jun 6 09:56:55 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You would repay the gross amount unless your employer allows you to pay less. Your employer has already sent in the income and payroll taxes to the IRS. You will have to recover those yourself. Assuming this bonus was paid to you in a prior year, you have a "claim of right" to the taxes you paid on that bonus. Get your tax return for the year you got the bonus, and re-do the return without the bonus. You will have taxes owed you. Don't forget to include excess SS and Medicare taxes you paid on the bonus as well as income taxes. Then if the refund due you is substantial, or you do not want to wait until 2008 to get this refund, file Form 1045 by itself and include the amount owed you on Line 28 (for 2006). This is the only line… [cont.]

How much bonus does an investment banking analyst make ?
Q. I intend to go into finance/investment banking (after i graduate and hopefully the economy recovers) . How much salary+ bonus would a NEW investment banking analyst make at an i-bank such as goldman sachs or jp morgan. also, i intend to get a Masters in financial engineering after i graduate from college...is it even worth it? will it give me a better shot at a higher position at an investment bank or will i have to start at the same level as college graduates?

A. At that level, the bonus is not significant. To make the big dollars, you need to become a banker with close ties (i.e., give a lot of money) to the President, the Speaker, and various other corrupt politicians.

What would you do if your boss cut your Christmas bonus in half?
Q. My position with the company is Office Manager. I have gotten the same amount for a bonus the last 4 years. I understand that it's the employers choice to give a bonus or not. I am grateful for what I did get. To me cutting the bonus with no explaination tells me I have done a bad job this year. He also cut the other secretaries bonus. I know the company had an average year. I just don't understand.

A. I'd be happy to receive anything if I was you. Don't ask your boss. That is tacky, and shows ingratitude. He's not obligated to explain a bonus. Actually, he's not obligated to give you one at all. If it's a bonus cut across the board, then it's business-- and not a personal comment on how you performed. If you performed badly this year, you wouldn't have gotten any bonus.
