Proper nounSingular Internet Plural - Internet
From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standardized Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP). It is a network of networks that consists of millions of private and public, academic, business, and government networks of local to global scope that are linked by copper wires, fiber-optic cables, wireless connections, and other technologies. The Internet carries a vast array of information resources and services, most notably the inter-linked hypertext documents of the World Wide Web (WWW) and the infrastructure to support electronic mail, in addition to popular services such as online chat, file transfer and file sharing, online gaming, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) person-to-person communication via voice and video. The origins of the Internet reach back to the 1960s when the United States funded research projects of its military agencies to build robust, fault-tolerant and distributed computer networks. This research and a period of civilian funding of a new U.S. backbone by the National Science Foundation spawned worldwide participation in the development of new networking technologies and led to the commercialization of an international network in the mid 1990s, and resulted in the following popularization of countless applications in virtually every aspect of modern human life. By 2009, an estimated quarter of Earth's population uses the services of the Internet (see Growth). From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How come the internet light on my DSL modem keeps blanking off? Q. My brother and I have two separate computers, and the same DSL modem: Westell. For some strange reason, the internet light on his DSL modem stays on always and my blanks on and off excessively. Does anyone know why this is happening? (The internet light is off even as I am typing this question...) Also, the internet light keeps turning red, too. Asked by DudeWTF - Wed Dec 24 22:50:48 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. When the lights are blinking, it means it's transfering data (I have a westell). When it turns red it means they's a connection problem, but red has only shown up when I turn it on, not in the middle of when it's on. If red keeps popping up, turn it off and unplug everything for 5 min, then reconnect it and turn it back on. This solved my red lights before. And we have a wireless router and modem and paying for highspeed internet. NOW, I always connected internet on my laptop with a desktop plugged into the router and then into the wireless router. Now the desktop doesnt work and i want to throw it away, Can i still get wireless internet w/out the desktop being plugged in? How do I do this? Asked by Mr. Nando - Sat Jul 26 19:54:46 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. You need a router. If your laptop was getting Internet connection through your desktop, you were probably using Internet connection sharing. Routers are devices that share the Internet connection. It works much better with routers than piggy backing computers. I know everybody likes to go wireless, but I highly recommend novice users stay away from it if you do not need to be 100% mobile. Check this video out: A lot of people don't understand that you can do this. It is really easy to setup. There is no problems with interference from wireless phones or even a neighbor's wireless. You also do not have to worry about security issues. Newegg.com and Best Buy sells powerline. Answered by Brandon S - Sun Jul 27 14:37:29 2008 What is the best wireless internet service for a laptop?
