Freedom of assembly, sometimes used interchangeably with the freedom of association, is the individual right to come together and collectively express, promote, pursue and defend common interests. The right to freedom of association is recognized as a human right, a political freedom and a civil liberty.

Freedom of assembly and freedom of association may be used to distinguish between the freedom to assemble in public places and the freedom of joining an association. Freedom of assembly is often used in the context of the right to protest, while freedom of association is used in the context of labor rights and the right to collective bargaining, for example by joining a trade union. Freedom of assembly, as guaranteed in the Canadian Constitution and the Constitution of the United States, is interpreted to mean both the freedom to assemble and the freedom to join an association.

A. Well the constitution has no specified limits however the courts have, over time, permited increasing limitations. The number one limitation is "where" you can assemble. Most governmental jurisdictions have limits of the size and nature of any gathering for the given location. You can't get 50 people and stand in the street at rush hour unannounced and say that you are peacably assembled. you could however get a city permit to close the street so you can have a gethering. Likewise, if you get 200,000 people in a remote farm field there will still be some sort of permit required. A home owner who had their bible study group of 10-15 people meeting in a private home was recently fined for operating a church in a residential area.

Are there any restrictions on freedom of speech, assembly, or media?
Q. Do we only have these rights as members of certain groups? Or to spread certain ideals? Do we need anyones permission to exercise these rights? Or do we have to allow for supervision while using them? Are we only allowed to speak violently or feel violently in a controlled setting or can people assemble and share their perspective without having their motives diverted and controlled by media tyrants, kill everything music, and the military?

A. Freedom is a matter of who you know, now what you know. Speak against a protected person or group and watch the sky fall .. speak against Christians though and NOTHING happens .. I would love to see that change!

A. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Who cares about this Amendment...(sarcasm) Independent A:~)
